So if you knew someone who was rabidly anti-Israel, quite probably anti-Semitic, and who had sent millions of dollars to a political organization that wanted to destroy Israel and that used many of the funds to pay for terrorist activities (the Palestine Liberation Organization), would you honor that person with a Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States?
